Day 86 – Lunch
I wanted to do something different for lunch today, and my team was already set on going somewhere I couldn’t go, KFC. I considered it for a while, and after I was given the idea of “Crazy Bowls and Wraps”, it reminded me of a different place I’d been wanting to go, but couldn’t convince anyone to try: Chipotle’s Mexican Grill. Before taking the trip out, I did some research and was intially shocked at how expensive the lunch would be, as far as calories were concerned. I then locked on another choice besides the burrito…a burrito bowl. It has everything the standard burrito has, but without the tortilla. The totrilla ALONE was 290 calories, and that means going the bowl route was a pretty amazing savings.
For those of you that have never been, Chipotle is one of several restaurants that have sprung up in recent years which I call Mexican Subways. Basically, there’s a bar with several item choices and your burrito, tacos, etc are made in front of you, with the items that you choose. In this case, I went with the steak, adding the red tomatillo, black beans, shredded cheese, cilantro-lime rice, and shredded romaine lettuce. The resulting dish, pictured above, was filling and delicious. The steak was flavorful, and the red chili tomatillo added a kick that was just spicy enough to give me a pretty good kick. Overall, it was a very amazing dish that is low on carbs and full of flavor. It was a good choice that I’ll be choosing again in the very near future.
